“Science” defined

7 03 2010

Friends, have you ever wondered what the meaning of “science” really is?  I mean, have you ever stood around scratching your head wondering why the world is in such a mess when there are so many scientific experts on the case?

Well, I have and I think I’ve discovered the answer.  It’s so simple you’ll kick yourself.

You see the etymology of the word itself is the answer.  In Average Joe speak, this means that the very definition of the word “science” tells us why things are so screwed up.  Here’s a tidbit from the Online Etyology Dictionary.  http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?search=science&searchmode=none

Does this Scientist look happy and content to you?

Science: …from L. scientia “knowledge,” from sciens (gen. scientis), prp. of scire “to know,” probably originally “to separate one thing from another, to distinguish,” related to scindere “to cut, divide,” from PIE base *skei- (cf. Gk. skhizein “to split, rend, cleave,” Goth. skaidan, O.E. sceadan “to divide, separate;”

Yes dear friends….the very definition of “science” seems to indicate that it’s purpose is to separate us from the truth, from one another, from connection to a whole (holy?) reality….

Hmmm.  Is it worth it?
